Chiropractic Support for Headache Relief in Uckfield
Helping you manage tension and neck-related headaches with evidence-based musculoskeletal care.
What Causes Headaches?
Understanding Possible Contributing Factors
Tension in the neck, back, and shoulders:
Muscle tightness in these areas may contribute to tension-type headaches, particularly during periods of stress or overuse.
Stress and lifestyle factors:
High stress levels, irregular sleep, dehydration, or dietary triggers are common contributors to headaches.
Postural imbalances:
Poor posture, especially during prolonged desk or screen work, may place strain on the neck and upper back, which in turn may lead to musculoskeletal tension linked to some types of headaches.
Environmental triggers:
Bright lights, noise, or certain smells can provoke headaches in some individuals. While these types of headaches are outside the scope of chiropractic treatment, understanding your triggers can support better symptom management.

Symptoms of Headaches
Persistent or throbbing head pain:
This may present as a steady or pulsating ache and is sometimes linked to tension-type headaches or other headache forms.
Sensitivity to light or sound:
For some people, exposure to light or noise may worsen symptoms and affect concentration or comfort. These symptoms are often associated with migraines, which are outside the scope of chiropractic care.
Tension in the neck and shoulders:
Muscular tightness in the neck and upper back often accompanies headaches and may contribute to discomfort, particularly in tension-type headaches.
Nausea or dizziness:
In certain cases, headaches may be accompanied by symptoms such as nausea or light-headedness. These types of symptoms typically fall outside the remit of musculoskeletal care.
Pain that worsens with movement or stress:
Physical activity or mental stress can sometimes aggravate headache symptoms, increasing intensity or frequency.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help with Headaches
-
Headaches originating from the neck (known as cervicogenic headaches)
- Helping manage muscle tension and joint stiffness
- Supporting postural habits to reduce neck strain
-
Encouraging healthy spinal movement and flexibility
✅ We follow ASA guidance, which permits claims for tension-type and cervicogenic (neck-related) headaches only – not migraines or other types of headaches.
Whilst chiropractic care does not treat or cure migraines, in some cases where musculoskeletal factors such as poor posture or neck stiffness may be contributing, manual therapy may offer supportive relief.
Any improvement in migraine symptoms reported by patients is considered individual and should not be expected as a typical outcome.
⚠️ Chiropractic care is not a substitute for medical migraine management. We recommend discussing your symptoms with your GP or neurologist to rule out underlying causes.
Chiropractic care identifies and addresses lifestyle or postural issues that may be contributing to headaches.
Every patient starts with a thorough assessment so we can understand the potential causes of their symptoms. If we believe chiropractic care isn’t the right option for you – or that your headaches require further medical investigation – we’ll always recommend referral to your GP or another specialist.

Chiropractic FAQs
Some answers to common questions we get asked...
How can chiropractic care help with headaches?
Chiropractic care may help relieve tension in the neck and upper back, which can contribute to certain types of headaches, such as tension-type and cervicogenic headaches. By improving joint mobility and reducing muscular tightness, chiropractic care can support better posture and musculoskeletal function, which may help manage symptoms.
Can chiropractic care help with migraines?
Chiropractic care does not treat or cure migraines. However, in some people, musculoskeletal tension in the neck or upper back may play a role in triggering headache episodes. By addressing these areas with gentle, evidence‑based manual therapy, chiropractic care may help support comfort and mobility as part of a broader approach to headache management.
Are adjustments safe for treating headaches?
Yes. Chiropractic care is generally considered low risk for managing tension-type and cervicogenic headaches. Your chiropractor will assess whether it’s suitable for you and tailor care to your needs. ¹
¹ Bryans, R., Descarreaux, M., Duranleau, M., et al. (2011). Evidence-based guidelines for the chiropractic treatment of adults with headache. Journal of manipulative and physiological therapeutics, 34(5), 274–289.
How long will it take to see results?
Every person responds differently to care. Some individuals may feel changes early on, while others may take longer depending on the nature of their symptoms. Your chiropractor will review your progress regularly and adapt your care plan based on your needs and goals.
Can chiropractic care prevent future headaches?
Chiropractic care may help manage musculoskeletal factors such as tension and poor posture that can contribute to certain types of headaches, like cervicogenic or tension-type headaches. By supporting spinal mobility and addressing contributing factors, regular care may form part of a proactive approach to reducing the recurrence of symptoms over time.
