Gait Scan Analysis

Your feet are the foundation of your body. If they’re not working properly, it can affect everything above them. Gait analysis helps ensure your movement is balanced and efficient.

Why is it important to examine my feet?

Your feet are like the foundations of a house, they support the weight of everything above them.

Every day they are taking a direct impact in weight and the mechanics of the foot joints will effect how the rest of the body including knees, hips, pelvis, back and neck joints move.

When you develop a problem with the way your foot joints move, it will change the way you walk . This in turn causes a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics.

These changes can put stress on joints higher up in your body, and lead to more serious problems such as degeneration of joints, arthritis or nerve damage.

Symptoms of poor foot biomechanics can include:

  1. Localised foot or toe pain
  2. Repetitive ankle sprains
  3. Bunions, hammer toes
  4. Plantar fasciitis
  5. Foot corns/ ingrowing toenails
  6. Morton's neuroma
  7. Foot arch/ heel pain
  8. Leg/knee/hip pains
  9. Shoes wearing out unevenly
  10. Lower back, mid back, neck pain
  11. Jaw (TMJ) pain.
  12. Headaches/ Migraines

How does the Gait Scan Analysis work?

1. It scans the foot

We ask you to remove your shoes and socks and to walk several times over our gait scanner. As you walk across the pressure plate, thousands of tiny sensors capture the distribution of pressure of your foot in relation to time.

2. Maps foot pressure

From your step, the computer displays 2d and 3d visual representations of the pressure under your foot. You can see where you have too much or too little pressure.

3. Prints a report

This information is then summarised in a report that can be printed for you. This report helps us to evaluate your feet and determines if the pain you are experiencing is related to faulty foot function.

4. Determines the need for orthotic therapy (foot insoles)

The information from this report will assist your health care practitioner to determine if you need orthotic therapy.

5. Data is sent to the laboratory

When it is determined that you will benefit from orthotic therapy, your report is sent securely to our laboratory in Canada. From here your orthotics are custom made specifically for you and your feet! Your orthotics are individualised and tailor made to an extremely high standard to ensure you the best possibility of regaining your optimum foot biomechanics and posture.

What exactly are foot orthotics?

Orthotics are devices like insoles which are worn in your shoes or sandals to provide correction to your foot joint mechanics. Prescription orthotics are specifically designed to correct the mechanics of your foot bones thereby realigning and stabilising them and restoring your natural walking pattern and posture.

"More than 75 percent of people will experience foot problems in their lifetime."

How do orthotics help?

They rebalance the bones in your feet and provide strong foundations for the rest of your body. A lot of people who use them report a reduction in pain and discomfort as well as improved posture. There are many benefits to using orthotics alongside your chiropractic care including stabilisation and reinforcement of good posture.
