CHIROPRACTIC

An alternative medicine diagnosing, treating pain, symptoms and prevention of conditions arising from the nervous and muscular system.

INTRODUCTION

Chiropractic is a type of alternative medicine diagnosing, treating pain, symptoms and prevention of conditions arising from the nervous and muscular system. This is a safe and effective treatment which does not require painkillers or surgery. A chiropractor often uses their hands during treatments, but can sometimes use tools.
Some of the most common ones are listed below:

Activator - This is a tool used by chiropractors, which gently releases the restrictions and trigger points in the muscle. It makes a click sound and has different intensity settings

T bar - A T shaped / knuckle shaped tool that helps with releasing tight muscle

Biofreeze - A gel or spray that acts as ice to reduce inflammation.

Massager - A device that vibrates which is put on the muscles to release tension

Drops - These are usually under the bench, the part of the bench raises up and then when the chiropractor puts force into it , then it drops making a noise.

What to expect

FIRST VISIT

Your first visit is one of the longest and requires you to fill in a form about your problem and personal details. Then, your chiropractor will go over the form with you and ask a few questions about your problem.

This is to help the chiropractor diagnose and build a better picture of your problem and to see if you are in the right place. Then a physical exam will be carried out which involves getting changed into a gown and the chiropractor performing diagnostic tests, checking the movement of your joints and checking the muscles for any tight or weak areas.

This may be sore afterwards, so make sure to do something that relaxes you or eases the pain after the appointment.

SECOND VISIT

The second visit is called a report of findings, which is about the same time as the first visit. The chiropractor discusses your diagnosis, treatment plan and what to expect during your future visits. The report of findings involves your first chiropractic treatment, which is what will be explained below.

Treatment

During the treatment, the chiropractor will do an adjustment. This is when they put you into a position and put gentle pressure on your spine with their hands. A short thrust is then applied, where you might hear some popping and clicking.

This is completely normal and is the gases escaping from the joint fluid, like when you click your knuckles. The chiropractor may use other techniques such as soft tissue work into the muscles and or ligaments of your body.

This involves checking the muscles for sore spots and pressing their thumb or fingers gently onto it. This eases off over time and can loosen tight muscles. The chiropractor might give you exercises to do at home to stretch and strengthen where you need it.

WELLNESS

These are regular adjustments and soft tissue work where you need it. Wellness care is all about keeping you functioning at your best and preventing past issues from coming back and future problems from occurring. This is usually every month and keeps your spine aligned and free from restrictions.
